castle's structure

Pillar
This structure has one person in the base. It can have from four to eight floors. It can walk, turn, round or face the balcony of Town Counil - most performances take place in front of the city's Town Council. The most characteristic is the pillar of five, with which the group begins and ends a performance.

Walking pillar
Very similar to the previous one but with less "pinya" - the "pinya" is a group of people that acts as a support and basement to the castle - and it walks. This one is only performed in the group's own city.

Two or tower
This one has two people in the base.

Three
It is a castle made up by 3 people in the base, forming a circle.

Four
Four people in the base, forming a square.

Four with pillar
This is a structure with four people in the base and a pillar in the middle. The pillar has two floors less than the outer structure. The castle is not finished until the four-structure is completely dismantled and the pillar remains with the "anxaneta" greeting.

 Five
This is a combination of two structures: a three and a tower. The "anxaneta" - the kid who climbs to the highest part of the structure where he/she raises his/her hand to signal the culmination of the castle - has to raise his/her hand twice (one on each structure) to consider the castle completed. It is one of the most beautiful structures for its majesty and for the great number of people tha build it.

  Raised from below
This is only done with the three and the pillar structures. Here the "pinya" raises the structure floor by floor.

Counting the castells

1: Count the "castellers" in each level. If there is only one, it is a pillar. If there are two, it is a tower. If there are three, it is a three and so on.

2: Then, count the heigh or number of floors. The "anxaneta" counts as one floor and so does the "acotxador" who is the kid below the "anxaneta". In the case of Castellers de Lleida the height is of 6 or 7 floors.

If there are 4 people in each level - except in the last 3 levels where the combination is always the same: two "dosos", one "acotxador" and one "anxaneta" - and 7 floors, then we have a 4 of 7. Following these rules we can know the name of each castle.
